May-Mo

May ~ Mo

May’s Dog of the Month is Mo! Mo is a 3 year old Golden Labrador who frequents Leslie’s Retreat with little bro Cole. Besides Cole, Mo’s best bud is Lucy. As labradors tend to be one of the friendliest breeds, it’s no surprise to find that Mo’s favorite pastime is playing at the park. His favorite toy is sticks which he enjoys chasing down after a toss from Mom Jen, or Dad Tim. After a good time at the park, Mo enjoys curling up in the safety of his crate for a nice long nap. His biggest pet peeve is fireworks so don’t expect to see him on the beach on July 4th. If Mo is in the mood for showing off, he will offer to shake hands with you so make sure to shake Mo’s hand next time you see him at the park! Congrats Mo!

ART IS FOR THE BIRDS – AND CATS & DOGS

Local artists called to create and donate birdhouses for Northeast Animal Shelter

SALEM, Mass. (April 2012) Salem’s collection of community minded stores, Roost, The Beehive and Scrub, locally owned by Kate Leavy and Jamie Metsch, are hosting their 2nd Annual Gimme Shelter Birdhouse Auction on June 3, 2012, with all proceeds benefiting the Northeast Animal Shelter (NEAS).

Local artists are invited to submit their original take on the classic birdhouse to be displayed and auctioned to the public at the event held at Roost’s 40 Front Street location. Ideally, the birdhouses should be functional as well as decorative, but no design restrictions apply except they need to fit through the door.

Want to donate a birdhouse creation for this very worthy cause? Contact us with your intent to submit by May 1st, 2012 to be included in promotional materials. Completed birdhouses must be received no later than May 20th, 2012.

April ~ Noah

April’s Dog of the Month is Noah the friendly Golden Doodle! Noah is a very unique
doodle with a dark chocolate brown coat with a few shades of gray.
Noah is 2 years old and he frequents the park with Big Sister Delilah, human baby brother Ben and mom and dad Liz and Todd.  Delilah is of course his best best friend.
Noah is looking forward to being a big brother again this summer to his newest little human friend! He’s ready to teach him the ropes and of course show of his best trick of sitting.
His favorite toy is tennis balls and he and Delilah enjoy racing across the park to see who can get to the ball first.
Tummy time with baby brother Ben is his favorite activity when not at the park and he’s very good about sharing his toys. However, Noah is never thrilled when Mom and Dad decide to go for a walk with Delilah or Ben without him!
Naptime is a close second favorite especially when its curled up at the foot of Mom and Dad’s bed.
Be sure to wave hello to Noah down at the park this month and congratulate him on being April’s Dog of the Month!

March ~ Dustin

Dustin is by far one of the most friendliest dogs we have down at the Salem Dog Park! Sometimes we are not sure if he’s better friends with the dogs or the people. He is a 3-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix. He is all black except for a tuft of white on his belly. And speaking of his belly – it is one of his favorite places to be scratched! In fact, if you scratch the right spot on his belly his legs start shaking in circles!!  While he may not have a favorite toy, he does have a favorite person and that is his Dad, Dennis. Besides socializing down at the dog park, Dustin’s favorite activities include sleeping while Dad is at work. A fun fact that you might not know about Dustin if you’ve seen him is that he only has one hip – but it doesn’t seem to bother him too much :)

Stella

February ~ Stella

Aren’t I adorable?!?!

Miss Stella the Boxer pup is 13 months old and a frequent visitor at the park along with her mom, Dawn. In fact, her favorite pastime is hanging with all of her fellow doggie friends! But of course her best friend of all is her mom, and when she isn’t playing down at the park she is at home snuggling in her mom’s bed. She’s got a great trick that she’d love to teach her friends but unfortunately no food is allowed in the park. But, at home she has perfected catching popcorn. Her favorite toy is seashells from the seashore, and her biggest pet peeve is having to wait for Mom to get her toys when they roll places she can’t reach!

Basil & Ollie

January ~ Basil and Ollie

Basil & Ollie are both 1 year old Jack Russell terriers with tons of energy! This dynamic duo keep Mom Jessica and Dad Steve very busy. While they are certainly not twins, they do share the same love for the park as well as many other daily activities such as catching an afternoon nap in Mommy’s bed! They also prefer to gang up on the family cat while showing off their fancy moves by giving each other 10 with their paws. If you’ve seen these 2 down at the park they were probably chasing down the tennis balls as they prefer the tennis balls over all the other toys in the basket. Keeps their little legs in shape!

Paige

December ~ Paige

Paige is a 1 1/2 year old, old-fashioned mystery mutt. The shelter termed her a hound mix but no one is really sure. But that’s ok – Mom Marishka and Dad Billy love her just the way she is! Paige’s favorite trick and park activity is to find ALL the mud puddles and lay in them of course! Fortunately she has short hair so she’s easy to rinse off. Her favorite toys are her dinosaur and buffalo and her best spot to snuggle up is on the ottoman at home looking out her window. Her biggest pet peeve is the cat who sits out on the back porch, d best friends ever are Sam and Brody! Paige has a unique pastime when not at the park – she steals the raw meatballs off the counters when no one is looking!

November ~ Lily

Lily is a 1 1/2 year old Pure White Siberian Husky! She is a frequent visitor to the Salem Dog Park and tags along with dad, Matt to play with all of her friends. Her favorite pastime when not at the park, is hiking in the snow – but be careful! She’s hard to see out there as her fur camouflage with the snow. The best trick Lily has up her sleeve is listening but her biggest pet peeve is meeting new people. Fortunately she warms up quickly to new comers! Lily is most happy sleeping curled up next to Dad’s bed, especially when her best friend, the Cat keeps her company. Besides chasing the tennis balls around the park, Lily’s favorite toy is a knotted rope.

Bentley and Gracie

October ~ Bentley and Gracie

Bentley and Gracie are both 3 years old and are the best of friends! Bently is an adorable Bassett Hound who loves to play with all the big dogs and makes a great attempt at keeping up with them with his short little legs! Gracie, his sister is true to her name – a graceful loving fox hound. Bentley and Gracie tag along with Dad Chris to the park. Their favorite toy is a rope and tug of war is their favorite game with each other! They enjoy chasing one another throughout the park with the occasional conversation where they bark at each other for a while. They prefer to sleep up on the big bed or the couch since their best trick is to pull all the stuffing out of their own beds! Make sure to greet this dynamic duo next time you see them at the park!
